Shenington Club meet

Firstly, I'd like to say thank you to Team Intrepid for the support, this was a bit of a baptism of fire... or rain (come to that in a minute).

Since having the Rotax I had only ever tested at Whilton a few times. So naturally my first race meeting would be Shenington. It was round 8 of the 2023 championship and it was very hotly contested, my aim as I have to start at the back of the grid was to go out and have some fun. and it was, in each heat, I made up places and got progressively quicker. The Rain had held off for most of the day, but it was coming and everybody could see it, The organisers decided to skip lunch and plough on to try and miss the downpour... the rain held off right up until my final race, as we sat on the grid, it was warm, the few drops of rain that were falling basically disappeared when they landed. We were sent out on the formation lap and the heavens opened, It was carnage on the first attempt to start so we had to go around again, each time we lost a driver due to spinning on the slippy track. I had never driven in the wet on slicks and so tried to take wider, slower lines and keep control. Eventually the race started, but again more people span. The Batenburg flag was out for a few laps and I just tried to stay on the black stuff, I had a few spins, went backwards into a tyre wall, but all around everybody was doing the same. I kept pushing as best I could and finally the checkered flag came down, From starting 23rd on the grid I had finished 17th. I was happy to just finish the race. It was a great learning experience and now I can check off racing on slicks in the rain!
